Rhythms haven't been shown to be copyrightable, and supposedly chord progressions and titles aren't copyrightable either.

I'm pretty sure David is correct. Otherwise somebody would have claimed copyright in the 12-bar blues progression long ago!


Bo Diddly tried to copyright the "hambone" rhythm that is featured so prominently in much of his music, and failed. (For those who are curious, it is exactly like a 3-2 rumba clave, or dotted-quarter, dotted quarter, quarter, then quarter rest, quarter, quarter, quarter rest.)
