I don't know about everyone else, but to me, the fact that most wage-slaves scrambling to get to work in the morning don't have the luxury of interrupting their commute for several minutes in order to stand around listening to a busker didn't seem especially surprising or culturally significant.

very true. a friend and i once tried, to no avail, for over 30 minutes around 8:30 one fine monday morning to get even one person to skip the 10m rope we were spinning in front of a main entry to the alcan building in downtown montréal. if people got agitated, or even seemed to be anxious we immediately stopped and let them through, but security told us they "had complaints" nonetheless. the discussion with the security guard was brilliant, his brain cells were popping as he tried to come up with something to answer my simple request: please explain what exactly it is that we are doing that was "wrong" so we can stop doing it.
