Hi Chuck,
"Automatic Music Spacing" will *always* override your custom measure
widths whenever a change is made, whether you use linked parts or not.
"Automatically Update Multimeasure Rests" makes it impossible to
permanently edit multimeasure rest widths, which you had complained
about earlier, so I'd assumed you'd turned that feature off.

There seem to be two choices: print the edited part to pdf before
moving to a new part and assume that those edited measures will

or; extract the part. In either case, this seems to be a
reduction in the functionality of the part linkage. Am I missing
something?
