Sorry to disagree, but they are greyed out for no apparent reason. If you go to edit the Lyrics (using the Edit Lyrics window) you can easily change font and size even for part of a syllable. I have just had to do this for the little slur symbol to link to syllables together. The character is in the Engraver Font collection, but I had to go back to the edit lyrics window to actually change the character to the correct font, very unnecessary.
Sure. I've done a lot of Italian opera scores, so I know that symbol well.
I don't think we're disagreeing. I didn't mean to suggest that all text features are unavailable for lyrics. As I understand it, size, font, and style are available for lyrics, while baseline shift, superscript, and tracking are not. Nothing you say contradicts that. I no longer have the original post I was responding to, but I thought the OP was looking for baseline shift, which -- unless they've changed it since v2k4 -- is unavailable for lyrics. He was also looking for strikethrough, which I don't think Finale supports at all.
(Actually, you can fake strikethrough pretty well by changing the underline depth setting to about +12 to +16 evpu, depending on the font. It doesn't appear properly on the screen, but on the printout it looks pretty good. Of course, that assumes you don't need any real underlines, since it's a document-wide setting.)
