Command D is only redraw screen, to get rid of screen artifacts. It wouldn't change anything regarding layout.
You must have a non-US keyboard layout if command \ shows multiple pages. I suggest choosing Update Layout manually from the Edit menu. This might solve it, if you have never updated layout (which seems to be the case from what you describe.)
