Which brings up another technical point. Should these indeed be
courtesy (paranthesized) accidentals, or regular accidentals.
Especially, I would think, in piano music, which is going to
involve multiple octaves as often as not.
I think there are courtesy accidentals (ones that are not strictly
needed according to rules of notation in operation at the time) that
are NOT parenthesised. I thought courtesy accidentals should be in
parentheses to distinguish them, but I have noticed that this idea is
not in keeping with most publications. For one thing, the parentheses
tend to clutter things quite a bit and reduce legibility, and they
take up more horizontal room.
Most courtesy accidentals I have seen are NOT parenthesised, but I
confess that I hadn't noticed that until it was pointed out to me.
