In any live amplification environment, the performer hears their sound mixed with the rest of the ensemble through a monitor speaker or internal ear piece. This mix is usually quite different from what the audience hears through the main speakers directed at them. The truth is: in any amplified performance environment the sound engineer is the most important person in the band.
