OK, now I see the problem.
Garamond Classic *Extras*, for example has 1/2 in the 'j" slot, not
as an extended character. Other fractions have similar assignments.
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.
I found one finally in WP TypographicSymbols. Unfortunately, I didn't
have any of the other fonts mentioned.
