Just for your info,

You might think Win user has advantage on ALT+num typing to call up
Unicode character but OS X does have that option, too :-)

Enable Unicode Hex Input from Locale Preferences.  When you want to type
Unicode character, for example, 1/2, select the Hex Input located by the
Date/Time at the top right, then type:
    Opt+00BD

Of course FinMac won't take it, but try with any of Unicode supported
app such as Safari or Finder search box.
