does anyone know the english term for a thick-shafted drumstick with ribs/threads along about 3/4 of its length, can be dragged across edges of instruments or cymbals to create a continuous chattering sound. couldn't find any images on google, but maybe some english-speaking percussionist knows what i'm talking about and has the answer?

i was told it is called reibestock in german, but ... i found reibestock in the german liner notes to a gubaidulina CD, but this was translated from friction stick (fr. trans. was baguette à friction). looking friction stick up on various (latin) percussion sites, it is NOT a ribbed stick, but has instead been rosined or waxed to create friction when inserted through cuica skins etc., so the german translation was wrong... and i have come across reibestock to mean the threaded stick before.

from the notation descriptions of lachenmann's "nun" (p6top, p8bottom), both threaded stick and friction stick are used seemingly (mostly) correctly <http://www.breitkopf.com/fileDownload.php?fileId=3570> (reibestock / gewindestange) but i can't find other instances of "threaded stick" in relation to percussion on google.

any ideas?
