Wait! Even if there is consensus that Fin2k8 is a buggy mess, why isn't the obvious alternative an earlier version of Finale? David Bailey writes about Sib5 as if there wasn't a learning curve involved. Well, David's a very smart fellow, but nowadays there's a learning curve involved in buying a new television.

Wouldn't the proper equation be: time saved using existing Finale skills minus time saved not having to learn a new program? That should give you a plus or minus sign at the end. What am I missing here?

Well, in my case I mentioned in my initial post on this topic that I was not able to go backwards. That is, after "upgrading", in this instance to NI2, and not being able to get Garritan and NI2 to work correctly with WinFin08, that going back and trying to get Garritan Studio and WinFin06 to play was just not happening anymore.

Also, the prospect of "waiting for 2009" is just ridiculous, folks. Problems need to be fixed, now.

Since my initial sob story, I continued to have other system problems, so I had Windows Vista removed from my system. I am now carefully restoring software and files to my system.

I had said I was going to first install Fin06 and Garritan Studio, before trying 08 and NI2 again, but my savvy son volunteered to install some things for me and immediately forgot those instructions. He installed Fin08, GPO, GJABB, and downloaded NI2, and - wonder of wonders - initial results are positive. I am actually getting some things to work, slowly but surely. I don't like the NI2 interface, but some things seem to work better than Garritan Studio, I think, such as volumes seem to come in better the first time.

Tell me, folks, is all of the latter bunch of software (Fin08, GPO, GJABB, NI2), Vista compatible, or isn't it? I now realize that Vista was causing me numerous problems - some of it, it seems to me, with software that had been working OK with Vista for several months before the problems started. Is Vista a time bomb?

Oh well, I am enjoying XP much more NOW than I did THEN.
