Hi Dennis, > And what does one need to get the best conversions from > Sibelius to Finale? The Sibelius Dolet? Or both?
You definitely need the Dolet 3 for Sibelius plug-in, as Sibelius 5.1 does not write MusicXML files itself. The other alternative would be MIDI. We have a video demonstrating the difference between the MusicXML and MIDI transfer at: http://www.recordare.com/sibelius/video/dolet3sib.html (high-resolution) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU61MAuBDtE (low-resolution) On the Finale side, the story is similar to export. You always get the best results from Dolet 4 for Finale, but whether it is worth the cost or not depends on the version of Finale you are using, whether you need the batch features, and the value of your time. The video is made using the built-in MusicXML import in Finale 2007. With each earlier version, Dolet 4 for Finale gives better results than what is built into Finale. You can download it for a 30-day free trial to see if the improvements are worth the money for your needs.
