If the problem persists outside Finale, then it isn't a Finale
problem. (also, I doubt the conclusion about Finale 2006 not seeing
the O8. That shouldn't matter, as USB to MIDI conversion takes place
outside Finale.)
Most obvious things first.
Are you sure it's on? (sorry, I had to ask. You'd be surprised how
many times I check other things first and THIS is the problem!)
Is the O8 set to send MIDI through USB? There are some menu settings,
I believe. Also try plugging it into another computer to make sure
the O8 itself isn't broken. If MIDI can be sent through USB to
another computer, then you can eliminate that as the problem.
Is the cable good? (check with a known good cable)
Is the computer port good? (check by plugging in a different USB
device.)
Check in About This Mac to see if the Mac "sees" the O8 under USB
devices.
Are you SURE all the drivers are up to date, as drivers may be
different for different systems? Check again on the website.
All this would be a good start. If you REALLY can't get the O8 to
send MIDI through USB, it will also send MIDI out the regular MIDI
port, where you could beg, borrow, or buy a cheap 1x1 MIDI to USB
interface and do it that way. I know, I know, that's not the point of
USB ports from MIDI keyboards!

Having been away from the List for a couple of years,
I find myself asking for help in desperation!
Recently finally upgraded my Mac from G3 iMac to funky
new Intel 20" iMac. Installed Finale 2006 for Mac
(having been using Finale 2004 on my G3 because
2005+2006 wouldn't run properly). All's well except
program keeps crashing on exit! Discover from Finale
website that this is nothing to worry about. Install
up to date driver for M-Audio Oxygen 8 keyboard.
Audio Midi Setup lists it as "Keystation" but that
seems right according to M-Audio website.
Discover that Finale 2006 isn't registering the Oxygen
8. Discover that this is a glitch with Finale and
only solution is to upgrade to 2008. Have done so.
(Will refrain from pointing out that the UK
Distributor charges UKĀ£119 (approx US$66 more than
official upgrade price) oops just did.) Received DVD
in post today and installed. Ran update to Finale
2008b.
I now have all the right software installed with the
most up to date drivers etc. However, I still cannot
register any MIDI input from the Oxygen 8 in Finale
(nor in GarageBand or Logic Pro).
I have had to upgrade the program with a deadline fast
approaching and a half dozen musical numbers to
re-arrange for an upcoming show, the exact opposite of
what I want to be doing. I can't go back to my G3
iMac because it is dead on its little legs (reason for
getting the new iMac in the first place!)
If anyone can help me with a magic bullet to solve
this infuriating problem - I have been up all night
trying to sort this out! - I will be eternally
grateful.
If this has been discussed before, please forgive me
not searching the archives, but tiredness and general
panic have pushed me straight to asking the wisdom of
the List.
With thanks. Steve Sandiford (Finale user since v2.0)
