Smart Shape tool -> Smart Shape menu -> Smart Shape Options - uncheck
"Make Horizontal by Default."
To unlock existing crescendos, right-click on the handle and uncheck
"Make Horizontal" from the contextual menu.

This one doesn't work either.
I trashed FinMac2008 pref file just in case but to no avail. This is
the last thing preventing me to finish this piece :-(
