Here's what I experienced installing two RCA converters:

1. connect the box between the rabbit ears and the TV (you probably know that).
2. Put the TV on channel 3 (the channel you use for a VCR).
3. Run set-up; hunt through the menus to find searching for channels
4. My two TV's were different. On one I could enter a code so the box remote
also operated the TV. The other was not listed for that, so we have to use both
the box remove for channel select and the TV remote for volume.
5. Later I found a command in the menus that measures signal strength while
moving the rabbit ears. Then after maximizing that, I had to rerun the channels
search.

Channels reception varies with the location and signal strength of the
broadcast antenna. Our local network stations just started using a new antenna
for digital. The PBS stations are not on that, so their reception is different.

Oh, an aside. The first box came up in Spanish, so I had to guess which menu
number was for setting language.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Finale] OT: TV digital converter box

In anticipation of next year's abandonment (in the US) of analog TV
broadcasting, I got myself one of the gummint's discounted
analog-digital converter boxes for my strictly analog TV (no cable, no
  outside antenna, just rabbit-ears).

Damned if I can get it to work. Surely someone on this list has enough
general electronics expertise to talk me through this? Any help would
  be gratefully appreciated!
