I've been asked to create music examples that will appear

measure in EVPUS, spaces, inches, points, picas, or

Is there an accurate conversion between pixels and any of
the measurement units used by Finale?

I realize it has to do with my screen resolution and size
(24" iMac currently at 1920x1200 resolution).

I'm supplying the video editor with EPS files. I could
arbitrarily choose the dimensions and the staff reduction
size. But, when the video editor takes the EPS file and
adjusts the dimensions to fit the available space, he or
she may only adjust the horizontal dimensions, altering
the aspect ratio of the EPS image, thereby making the
music look like it's being viewed through a fun-house
mirror!

Any idea what I would need to do to supply a good looking
music example when the video editor says i have X-by-Y
amount of pixels to fit music into?

There isn't a specific answer because not all pixels are the same size. It sounds like the DVD people are thinking more in DPI than in pixels but aren't saying so.

Think about the display of a photo on your computer's screen -- you can show the same photo tiny or huge, using the same pixels. At the different magnifications, each pixel is used differently.

You can create a musical example which will look perfect on your monitor, filling it from top to bottom, but on a lower resolution monitor it would still fill from top to bottom when the zoom is set to show a full page.

That is also compounded by the fact that televisions don't have the same resolutions as computer monitors and they don't even have the same resolution as each other which is why you can see the complete screen of a DVD on a 52" diagonal tv as well as on a 32" diagonal TV -- they don't have the same number of pixels, yet they can show the same data.

I'm not sure there's a ready answer other than trial and error to find the size you need to make your Finale documents so they display as the video editor wants.
