Nope, there's not. You can claim copyright on the Mona Lisa if you want. Doesn't mean it has the force of law, though, but no one can do anything to
you for saying so.

This whole public domain thing is a big issue. Disney is notorious for
taking something in the public domain (the story of Pocahantas, Aladdin, etc.), putting their own spin on it, then going after anyone like piranhas who dares to even use the names of the characters, let alone the stories.

The fact is, if Disney sued you for making your own version of Aladdin, they
would lose on the merits if it ever got to trial but by that time, the
average person (or even the average company) would be bankrupt trying to defend the suit against a behemoth like Disney, so most people cave, even though they are legally in the right and Disney doesn't have a leg to stand
on.

Unbelievable.

I can't wait for someone to pull the rug out from under some big company like Disney for that. That's not what copyright is for.

[shakes head and mutters under his breath "communism better..." grumble, "big brother" mutter, mutter, "police state..." growl, "get a cabin in Montana and a rifle to protect meself 'gainst them revenooers" cough, cough...]
