Up until now I've liked mine too. But the sucker is actually turning paper into accordion sheets.

My clients are starting to complain ;-)

I love my AP2610 (not everyone on the list with one does). But it does jam sometimes, usually when the paper supply gets small. Whenever it thinks it is jammed but is not (such as when it tries to pick up paper from a low stack and fails) just find the small door on the top, (near the back) and pull it open and shut. (After you have added more paper, obviously.) The printer will then realize it's OK. That trick saves a lot of time.

My laser printer ( a Rico AP2610) pretty much jams every time I try to use it.

The causes of this kind of thing that can be remedied:

1. dirty rollers -- open it up and use a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol to clean them thoroughly.

2. cheap paper -- sometimes a batch of paper is too thin/too thick/ etc. and just doesn't work with a printer. Paper that is too dry can also cause this problem.

3. static electricity -- in the winter, this can cause pages to stick together and misfeed. The only solution is to up the humidity to reduce the occurrence of static electricity. Your sinuses will thank for your this.

But there are also things that can't be remedied without a service call from a tech, which is usually going to run a minimum of $150. With new laser printers costing $200, it's hard to justify that.

I have a perfectly good PS laser that has a problem, but replacing the component to make it work would cost about $250. The printer itself cost only $600 back in 2001, so I've put it back in the box in hopes that something magical will happen (e.g., a bird will drop a box with the needed part on my front step).

Really, there's no reason I shouldn't just give it away to someone who is willing to spend the $250 to end up with a usable printer, while I can invest the same amount in a brand-new printer.

But I procrastinate and do nothing!
