No. There's no life. The expression designer is unbearable and
depressingly slow. I weep.
But once that is said on this list, there is nothing further
to discuss other than for all of us to bemoan how horrible
some aspects of Finale remain despite all the money we have
all poured into upgrades which bring marginal improvements
and new bells and whistles which remain on the periphery of
usefulness to serious engravers who are using the program
for the original purpose for which it was created -- to put
elegant legible and clear notation on paper.
Nobody can offer workarounds for the horrible expression
designer nor for the still unfathomable midi tool nor for
the not-very-useful-for-much-beside-simple-music hyperscribe.
So other than several hundred "I know, and isn't it horrible
how we've complained about that for version after version
and they still don't do anything about it" there really
isn't a lot to discuss.
It isn't like years ago when each new upgrade brought
hundreds of "ohmigod, did you notice that if you do xyz, the
notation is the most beautiful I've ever seen!" or "I can't
believe it but they've finally fixed [fill in old-time
finale bug]!" or "I don't know how I ever lived without
staff styles -- they're the best thing added to Finale in
years!"
Unfortunately, 7 or 8 versions later, staff styles still
remain the best thing added to Finale. Yet many of us have
paid the same upgrade costs each year since.
