No 'Save as Audio' option!!! Guess midi will have to do!
You're right. I was misled because the "export to audio file" option opens the "save audio file as" dialog box, at least on my installation. At the bottom of the save audio file as dialog box there are two radio buttons, to save as a WAV, or to save as an ~.mp3.

I wondered if your ~.mp3 codec was somehow corrupted, so I went to the Finale support page, and consulted the Knowledgebase, and doing a search on your version of Finale, and the word "Codec" came up with the possible answer that it may be a result of what playback option you are using. According to the knowledge base, (cf. <http://makemusic.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/makemusic.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=901&p_created=1188999439&p_sid=VoRT6ftj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9Nyw3JnBfcHJvZHM9MSwxMzMzLDEzMzQmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PTMuMTMzNCZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PW1wMyBjb2RlY3M*&p_li=&p_topview=1> ) [NB: everything between "<" & ">" should be pasted without spaces into a browser window], in versions of Finale after 2k6 you cannot save as an ~.mp3 if you are using VST or AU playback.
