Well, has *any* version of Finale taken care of that? I'm way behind, still using WinFin2003, and I've never had collision avoidance of that kind. But the point is that when you space the music, it accounts for room needed for expressions in horizontally placing the notes. This is what I understood as having been removed. In reality, I can think of a lot of cases where I wouldn't want expressions to change the music spacing. It's kind of like the old lyrics problem -- in 8th-note melismas, the first two notes are too far apart because the spacing algorithms allocate all the space for the syllable to the first note of the melisma, even though the syllable applies to one or more following notes, and there's no need to allocate that extra space. Expressions can be like that (e.g., "cres."), so not accounting for them wouldn't be the biggest disaster. Maybe I'm overreacting after all. -- David W.
