Hello Listers,

Finale has obviously been evolving since I was last here several years ago, but I'm still using mainly 2000c with occasional forays into 2004a which my husband has.

Playback on both versions of Finale was working fine until a couple of days ago and now isn't, and neither of us has been able to work out why. It packed up on 2000c first. Playback worked at first in 2004 and then stopped working there too. The problem isn't a general one on the computer or my headphones as I can hear the BBC radio broadcasts as usual. I use Finale playback mainly for proof-listening, which I'm so much better at than visual proof-reading, so I really miss it.
Though your comment about the use of headphones implies you are playing back through the computer soundcard, you don't specify how you are playing back, through the computer sound card directly (sound through computer speakers), or through a MIDI device. If you have a MIDI output device, you might see if that is working correctly. You might also turn on the sound on a game, play it a bit, and see if you are hearing sound there. What exact values are in the MIDI menu? Save one of the files to MIDI format, and see if it will play back through Windows Media Player.
