Sounds like you have two staves on top of each other. Try dragging one up or down to figure out which one to delete. (this would have been a better way to reorder your staves anyway).

Next time, select the staff just below where you want to enter the new staff. Then use Add New Staves (Using setup wizard.) The new staff will be entered just above, and everything will be respaced automatically to make room for it. This works in 2009-10 anyway, I can't vouch for earlier versions.

Previously, I wrote to the List regarding my attempt at creating an orchestral score. You were all correct: Finale had the transposition box checked in Staff Attributes, but no transposition had been selected. Thanks to you all for that clarification.

I have another issue:

In my orchestral score, I did not initially include an oboe staff in the WW section. My first staff was Flute, 2nd staff was Bb Clarinet, 3rd staff was Bassoon. Later on in the arrangement, I decided that I should have included the oboe, so I "created new staff with Set-Up Wiz." I named the staff OBOE....Finale called it Staff 15 and put it at the top of my score. I wanted the new oboe staff to be under the flute....so I renamed the staves in my WW section to make room for the oboe.

Interestingly, when I look at my score, I see my Flute part on staff 1 but I also see a series of whole rests in the same staff....the rests look to be the same as when using cue notes, only they are of normal size, not reduced.

I want to get rid of the rests but can't select them without also selecting the notes. It kind of looks like Finale is trying to write 2 parts on the same staff and in the same layer.

The score plays back correctly....but it looks abnormal. I don't want to give the score to the conductor until I figure out how to make it look right, so I am open to some instruction from my fellow Listers. How do I put out the fire?

Thanks,
 Larry
