Certainly Bernstein is playing with the idea in the introduction to "Quiet!"
in Candide playing the row in inverted and other transformations with
interruptions from the characters on stage, who then take up the row: "No
doubt you'll think I'm giving in to petulance and malice", etc. But the rest
of the ensemble is quite tonal.

Always assured of fascinating, diverse discussions on this list; I love it.
