I'm at the limits of my memory at this point, so I'll let someone who 
has the actual information at hand chime in.

While I think the idea of the score with gray variant readings is 
intriguing, it's still falls on the wrong side of the controversial 
criticial vs. performing line for me. While I'm a musicologist, I 
think a critical edition has to resolve the performing problems 
(without hiding the fact that it's an editorial intervention), or 
it's of no use whatsoever. I don't see how printing all the variant 
readings, even in gray, does that.
