Yeah, kind of what I thought .... I can in fact alternate players
without too much trouble.

Possible but on the edge at that tempo. The Mendelssohn
("Midsummer Night's Dream" scherzo, "Donna Diana" overture) are a
bit slower. If there are a LOT of them you might want to alternate
players. Range shouldn't matter.
