It means exactly what it says. If you use AU/VST instruments (for example, Garritan instruments) for playback, you can'd save directly to MP3. You have to save to AIFF or WAV first, then convert afterwards. Finale has always worked this way -- you've never been able to save directly to MP3 when using AU/VST instruments.
