I was in attendance at a Sacramento Symphony concert years ago when,
in the middle of Beethoven's 6th (Mvt. 2 I think), every light in
the hall went out. The orchestra just kept playing until even those
with excellent memories couldn't go on. It was one of the most
magnificent decrescendos I've ever witnessed.

Sure, but that's true of ANY technology. If the power goes out,
the lights go out. It's happened to our orchestra!!! And in a
performance, not just a rehearsal. We limped through a couple of
pieces with battery stand lights and flashlights, and then gave up.
And then there was the night we were playing in an old town hall in
southern Indiana, across the street from the fire department, and
the fire alarms went off!!!!!
But I suppose that when they had to depend on candles to read
music, someone's music inevitably caught fire!! That's why
Colonials put their kitchens in a separate building.
