1) Using Whole tied to Quarter, regardless of wether the division is 3+2 or
2+3
2) Using a Halfs and Dotted Halfs tied to each other to reflect the division
of the bar (whatever the case may be).

Definitely the latter, based on the fact that in duple time the rule is to divide the measure according to the natural subdivision (although in that case it results in two equal halves).

I'm trying to remember what Holst did in The Planets, but I can't. But it made it easy to read and play.
