I had never bothered to look, but I just noticed that the file I'm currently working on had its multimeasure rests set to a minimum width of 1.25", which is just way, way too wide! So, I've changed it to 0 and will be testing to see what it does. I'm hoping it allocates the minimum space needed to accommodate the rest symbol and number, and then I can adjust to make them wider as needed. So, for me, the mystery of why they come out too wide is resolved! -- David W.
