Staff List Manager is completely safe, provided you don't try to remove staves that contain music.
There is nothing that TG Tools can do that Undo won't fix, so trying costs (essentially) nothing. I use TGTools pretty much the way I always did. But you don't want to do anything in TGTools that affects groups. That is really the primary thing that doesn't work.
