Subject: [Finale] Hiding redundant rests

A "how to speed up my work" question:

I write each part of an orchestral score with its own staff. Then, to make a
conductor's score that will have fewer staves, I move flute 2 to layer 2,
use "show active layer only," and place fl. 2 over the fl. 1 part, and
delete the old fl. 2 staff. The resultant conductor's score shows stems-up
fl. 1, stems-down fl.2, etc. My problem: rests in the new fl.1-2 staff
appear from both layers. So then I go back and "hide" one rest, and "place"
the other rest properly on the staff. This works, but is tedious.

Is there a way to simplify this, or speed up this process?
