Dennis, This for me has been a long-standing issue. MacPro 10.6.8. I also have a MacBook Pro but I do so little editing on that machine I've never come across the problem.
Someone suggested here that the next time it happens, run your fingers over the QWERTY keyboard. I have done that now many, many times, adding in the numeric keypad as well, and every single time it has alleviated the problem; at least until the next occurrence. In a long Finale session of several hours, I can encounter the problem 4-5 times and this has worked every time for me. Try it and see.
