There are all kinds of situations where you can get a note to hang in Finale, particularly in Speedy. I do it all the time, by accident, say, by hitting Return to go to the staff below while still holding the MIDI key, so the original staff never gets a Note Off message on its channel. I also get hung notes when switching programs, probably for similar reasons, though I suspect the Mac MIDI engine might have something to do with it, with the way it manages MIDI between multitasking apps.
Fortunately, there is an All Notes Off command in the MIDI/Audio menu. Funny that you're asking these questions in the Mac forum. The question in this case has most likely the same answer as for Windows, but that isn't always the case.
