Hi all, My brain is just not switching on when it comes to setting up percussion in Finale.
The needs seem pretty basic: Assign any given percussion instrument to any given line or space with any given notehead and have it play back; copy patterns to different lines or spaces; and change from pitched to unpitched percussion instrument & clef. I revisit percussion every few months and end up using kludges to make the correct instruments play or using a non-percussion staff so I can 'transpose' patterns. If I try to move the finished percussion line to a Finale percussion staff, things end up in colors, end up with a zillion ledger lines and with weird double-stemmed notes, and play totally different instruments. The tutorials seem to send me back to the same simple (to me) question: How do I assign MY choice of instrument to MY choice of staff line or space with MY choice of notehead and have it play back correctly? Years ago there was a simple two-step map for doing this -- staff line/space on one side, GM percussion instrument on the right side. Can anyone give me a VERY short description of how to assign these instruments and have them play back via the Garritan set ... I'm sure if I can get hands-on to work *just once*, I'm good. This is just a sample that includes what I'd typically use but can't figure out. (*Please* don't send me back to the documentation or tutorials.) 1. Assign a bass drum to the space below the bottom line with a solid notehead. 2. Assign a snare drum to the middle line with an X notehead. 3. Assign a tom to the second space from the bottom with a solid notehead. 4. Assign a triangle to the top line with a triangle notehead and change it back & forth from stopped to unstopped. 5. Copy and 'transpose' the triangle pattern so I can make a call-response between it and the tom on the second space. 6. Change the staff to glockenspiel (treble 8va clef) and back.
