I'm not into the more advanced playback techniques of later Finale versions,
but in my FinWin 2005 I can put arco sounds on one layer and pizz. sounds on
another, with separate MIDI channels and adjust the volumes independently
for each layer using hidden expressions with MIDI controller 7 or 11 volume
settings. And assuming there are no bars with music on both layers then the
print-out is perfect too - no need for extra staves, hidden or otherwise.
So I think that's not a cheesy method at all. That's exactly what I would
do as a matter of course.

A very unsatisfactory solution is to put arco and pizz(a). in different
layers with different midi channels hence different dynamics...very cheesy!

Thank you David and Raymond;

Now I know the (ugly) truth! For a half-decent playback I just may have to
copy onto additional staves the arco material that needs to be heard through
the pizz. fireworks :-(
