John, you can edit staff line thickness (Documents --> Program Options) to
get better visibility.
Staff line default (I think) is 0.00781 and ledger lines are twice as thick,
so you could choose a size in between, say .0117.
Depending on the music (notes) font you use you might want to set all note
sizes a *little* smaller to accommodate...

As a 85 year old, I'm having trouble sightreading notes on ledger lines. Is
there any way to darken the 5 lines of the regular staves so that the ledger
lines are a little more distinguishable?
