Don Hart got me thinking about how to run old FinMac versions, and I am happy to report that I am running a pretty stable virtual MacOS 9.0.4 under Sheepshaver hosted on my contemporary PowerMac running 10.9. (The Sheepshaver docs say it also works all recent Mac OX versions through 10.10, Windows, and Linux.)
Sheepshaver is a freeware PPC emulator capable of running Mac OS versions 7.5.2 - 9.0.4. It was last updated only a year ago, and the forum is quite active. It takes a little fiddling to set up, but the instructions are quite accurate and detailed. Everything you need is here <http://emaculation.com/doku.php/sheepshaver>. I am currently able to run Finale 1.0.0, 2.6.3, 3.7.2, 97, 2000, 2002, and 2003. (Those are the versions I have held on to. I'm sure it would work also with versions in between.) All except 1.0.0 produce useful results. That is, I can generate Postscript listings that I can convert to PDF inside OSX. (To be able to get useful results out of 1.0.0 I would have to change all the font settings in my 1.x docs from Petrucci 71 to Petrucci 24, and I don't have enough 1.x files to bother with it. Also, I think there was an update before v2, and I don't have that.) Anyway, I thought other old-time Finale users might be interested that this is still possible in 2015, going on 30 years after the release of 1.0.0. _______________________________________________ Finale mailing list [email protected] https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: [email protected]
