The pdf export feature in WinFin2012c (the version I'm currently using) has
a bug that generates extraneous characters, usually at the bottom of pages
containing triplets. I reported this bug to Makemusic in Nov. 2013; it's a
known bug in the 3rd party pdf export engine they use, and to the best of my
knowledge it has not been fixed in Fin2014 to date. You might consider
using one of the many available "pdf printer" products, which install as a
printer driver and enable pdfs to be produced from any application which can
print. I've tried many of them, and my current favorite is Bullzip
(http://bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php). It's fast, full-featured,
produces very small file sizes, and is solid as a rock. Even better, it's
free for individual use.

One other thing: the Finale pdf export, in addition to being buggy, produces
files 5-6x bigger than any other pdf tool I've used.

Thanks - no, there are no illegal characters but amazingly, since I sent my
email to the forum, the file has been sent successfully. I've no idea what
the problem was.

Ah well, another problem solved!
