I on the other hand did the cross-grade back with Sibelius version 2.11
and never really attempted to learn it. Then I upgraded to version 3
and started to learn it a bit, moreso with version 4, then with version
5 I kicked myself in the butt and told myself to stop trying to make it
"finale-east" and learn it as if it were a totally different and
brand-new program, which I did and I have never looked back.

I've kept up with upgrades to Finale but I start almost every new
project in Sibelius these days (using version 7.1 -- I didn't find the
switch to the "ribbon" interface all that difficult).

And don't fail to check out MuseScore version 2 -- it has come a long
way towards being very stiff competition for Sibelius and Finale for
many music engraving needs.

But to answer Neal's question -- you can continue to be a Finale user
and continue to upgrade both Finale and Sibelius as you wish once you do
the cross-grade.
