First of all, select everything using the Selection Tool and hit 4 to invoke music spacing. Still a problem?
The nature of word extensions is that sometimes Finale will eliminate them to allow the spacing to be tighter. It was a much-demanded feature and I applaud this, but if you don't like it, you can either nudge the syllable left, or add some space in front of the next note. I have an articulation that is a blank character that I use for this. I set Music Spacing to take Articulations into account, then I attach the blank articulation and nudge it until I have the space I want. It survives a music respacing. But I bet there are ways to set the Lyric settings (or Music Spacing?) to make it conform to 2008 ways.
