Just the model of the computer doesn’t tell us much. It has to do with the
operating system (OS 10.x?)

I used a 2005 iBook with Finale 2010 quite happily, but 2011 would not run on
it (OS 10.6).

New computers will come with Yosemite right now, but DO NOT get El Capitan! It
has major issues until the next upgrade. If you install the required version of
Java, you need to restart the computer. Is that the issue?

You can google info about system requirements, but boy, it would make life
easier for you if you had the same version of Finale on both computers! I was
going to link to the Finale Forum, but it seems to be down right now. It has a
discussion about system compatibility.
