I just learned that Peaksware, the company which owns MakeMusic, has purchased Alfred Publications. I guess they're jumping further into the music market.
I wonder if it's so that they'll have a large print music library available without extra negotiations for inclusion in SmartMusic. In any event I found it curious that a sports software company would make such a large leap into the music world -- I had always figured Hal Leonard would by Alfred. Just a curiosity -- I doubt it will have any effect on Finale, although if management resources and money need to be siphoned away from MakeMusic products to complete the transition to owning Alfred it may not be a good thing for us Finale users. -- David H.
