Hi Joao, in general I would recommend to assume that the fan files are not compatible. There may be compatibilities between some Finale versions, but it's difficult to predict and may also depend on the coding of the font or usage in MacSymbolFonts.txt. Especially if you are working cross-platform they are probably not compatible.
Each FAN file has the Finale version it was created with and the font name included in its code. If I remember it correctly, it's only that font name that counts for connecting the FAN file with the font (not the file name). Simply open a FAN file in a text editor and you will see what I mean. And yes, you should better restart Finale after changing FAN files.
