For windows, try MidiPiano. For mac, try SimpleSynth. They are free. I don’t do Windows, but the Mac version has a number of rudimentary piano sounds. If the midi keyboard is plugged in, you just launch and play. If Mac, GarageBand may be a higher quality option. More complicated, but still pretty easy to use. Also, it uses more CPU.
