What I meant was have you installed the fink 'system-xfree86' package, which
lets the fink dependency database know that you have already installed
XFree86.  If not, then do so--it shouldn't do anything to the rest of your
system.  

Unfortunately, there's not a placeholder package for ghostscript6, which
many packages require, so you may well wind up with two installations of
ghostscript if you want any fink packages that use it.  What I wound up
doing to avoid this was to install ghostscript and TeX through fink, and
then change the search paths for TeXShop (in the Preferences--this works as
of TeXShop version 1.14) to look in /sw/bin for ghostscript and TeX.  This
allows TeXShop and fink packages to use the same ghostscript and TeX
installations.
