There were some problems with earlier versions, but 1.0.2 (which is now the
latest fink unstable version, answering your next question) seems to do all
of these things--but I haven't used it too much.

1)  I show gnumeric-1.0.2 as the most recent unstable version, and have it
installed.  Have you done a selfupdate lately?

Possibly not.  Stability in this case refers to that of the OSX/Darwin port.
Packages are graduated to stable by the fink maintainer if they get positive
feedback that the package works correctly.
