Ive just updated a library this morning (dont remember the exact name) associated with gnome via update-all and found a enormous list of unused definitions of symbols: Here is one example (out of more than 50):
/usr/bin/ld: warning unused multiple definitions of symbol _gzclose /lib/libz.dylib(gzio.o) definition of _gzclose /sw/lib/libz.1.dylib(gzio.o) unused definition of _gzclose The lib I just downloaded with fink should be in sw isnt it ? Then is it safe to remove the /lib/libz.dylib or replace it by /sw/lib/libz.1.dylib? How can I know what is the most recent version ? Why cant the fink installer just check for that, ie take in account all the libs ? Well, there is so many different ways to install things (direct cvs, fink/deselect, packages, downloading and config/making yourself,...) that this kind of situation will often arise. How one should handle these pblems ? Sorry for these naive questions but few different installations recently lead to the same multiple definition of symbol pblem. And, for some, the problem blocked completely the installation.
