I think the directory is a temporary one, and is supposed to be generated by
dpkg.  Don't make one yourself.  What version of fink (from 'fink
--version') are you running?

The latter error looks like you have a bad source file.  What does 'ls -l
/sw/src/wget-1.7.tar.gz' give you?
