I posted this to the wrong list (users)- obviously, I am a beginner; I
didn't find a useful answer in the FAQs or archives.

Problem- fink works beautifully when I'm on dial-up at home, but
can't connect from the ethernet T1 at work.

We have a proxy for http only. I've tried using fink configure to set
the proxy (http://66.99.56.2:8081), leaving the ftp settings at none
and passive (defaults). I've also tried using the http proxy address
with ftp, answering "N" to the passive question, etc. At this point,
I believe I've tried all possible combinations of proxy responses.

Testing, using "sudo dselect" and the update function, always results
in connection failure from the ethernet connection. "apt-get" also
fails to connect.

I can ping and traceroute sourceforge.net from xterm in Window Maker.

The fink-users list posting resulted in a single response advising me
to set ftp to passive mode, but isn't that set under fink configure
as default ("Y")? Regardless, turning it on or off in fink configure
doesn't solve the problem.

Any advice would be welcome.

Stan
